Cartier, Islamic Inspiration and Modern Design (2023)

CARTIER, ISLAMIC INSPIRATION, AND MODERN DESIGN AT THE LOUVRE ABU DHABI

Following the success of the exhibitions at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris in 2021 and at the Dallas Museum of Art in 2022, Cartier, Islamic Inspiration and Modern Design was presented at the Louvre Abu Dhabi from 16^th November 2023 to 24^th March 2024. The museography and the digital spaces were designed by the New-York-based studio Diller Scofidio + Renfro (DS + R).
On the journey from Paris to Dallas, new artefacts were added to the selection to complete the story of Islamic art’s influence on the Maison’s creative process and stylistic expressions throughout the twentieth century.
Cartier, Islamic Inspiration and Modern Design reunited over 400 objects from the collections of the Louvre Abu Dhabi, Musée des Arts décoratifs in Paris, Musée du Louvre, Cartier Collection and Archives, and private lenders and institutions, including masterpieces of Islamic art, jewellery, precious objects, miniatures, textiles, and archival documents.
The exhibition Cartier, Islamic Inspiration and Modern Design marked the 40^th anniversary of the Cartier Collection and is the 40^th monographic exhibition dedicated to Cartier.
