CARTIER AND WOMEN
AT THE HONG KONG PALACE MUSEUM

Cartier and Women, held from 14th April to 14th August 2023 at the Hong Kong Palace Museum, was the first exhibition to trace the role and influence of women in the history of the Maison.
The exhibition featured nearly 300 exceptional pieces created by the Maison, including watches, clocks, precious objects and accessories dating from the 19th century to the present day.
Cartier and Women told the story of the intimate relationship between women and their jewellery through a series of captivating narratives that reflect Cartier’s deep connections with many influential women throughout history and in the present day. Among them emerged the figure of Jeanne Toussaint, the first female Creative Director of the Maison who held this position from 1933 to 1970. This woman of strong character did not simply leave her mark on the history of Cartier but changed its very vision of jewellery. Sensitive to societal changes, Jeanne Toussaint realised that Cartier jewellery could allow women to express the new freedom they were acquiring.
The exhibition also highlighted the depth of Cartier’s appreciation of Chinese art, as well as of art from all over the world.
